Last Couple of Months 2017
At the end of September 2017, I went back to UK to visit my family. I haven’t seen them for over 2 and a half years. Baby was growing quick so we thought we better meet the rest of the family before she’s not a baby anymore.
While in the UK, I took a break from blogging for a bit because I exhausted myself by spending a lot of sleepless nights trying to sort out the page layout and all the problems I had with the website, and so on. I just wanted to get away from it for a bit to get my head around things.
Leaving UK made me realised how much I missed English food. I had a bucket list of foods I wanted to go through before coming back to Hong Kong. The first dish I had when I got back to the house was a dirty kebab! This made the journey well worth it. The next morning I couldn’t wait to tuck into an English breakfast! Lunch was Fish & Chips. It wasn’t the best but I knew we would be getting the real deal in Nottingham later on in the holiday. Next on my bucket list was a Toby Carvery, KFC, the list goes on!
Launch Date
Behind the scenes I was planning when I should launch the website, since I keep getting cold feet every time. Eventually I took the plunge and launched it just before Christmas Day! It was scary but a relief at the same time. Had so much support from everyone, especially from the sewing community I follow on Facebook.
Back to Basics
During my break in UK I was thinking what is the best way to present my tutorials, since there were so many tutorials out there about sewing, pattern cutting, and making things. I thought to myself, “You know what? If I am a student or someone who wants to learn to make clothes, I want to start from the beginning”!
So, that’s what I have decided to do. Back to basics! I am not going to teach in drips and drabs, but in an orderly fashion. I am going to recommend pattern cutting books. Give you an equipment list. Show you how to draft patterns. Show you how to manipulate patterns. Show you how to sew fabric pieces together. All the basics before stepping onto the advance stuff. This will take time of course because a lot of it will require video tutorials. Since having a little one around all the time, this wasn’t going to be easy.
Time in UK
During my time in the UK I got to visit 3 fabric shops on my bucket list. Guthrie & Ghani, Adam Ross, and Abakhan. I almost missed my chance since I had a very busy and tight schedule to stick to. I didn’t even get to meet up with all my friends I haven’t seen for a while. Once I get the photos sorted I will blog about these 2 shops.
Plans for 2018
As for 2018, I will be more productive and get my youtube channel up to scratch. The PDF patterns are already completed. I have a lot of ideas for baby and children’s wear I like to share. Just need to brush up on my crochet patterns then I am sorted.
Planning to start sharing, and selling embroidery designs on ETSY to help fund baby’s schooling! Lol. Jokes, but it will help. I have a lot of designs I have created a while back when I designed my Chinese wedding outfit. I have been approached to sell these designs. At the time I didn’t really think much about it but now that I’ve quit my job to become a full time mum, I hope my designs will help supplement this since I can’t work anymore. I have a lot of ideas for designs in the pipeline. Just busy creating these files and give it a test run before churning them out.
Fingers crossed!
