Please take note: This is a just a fun mask, used for entertainment purposes only.
After seeing so many requests for this sought-after mask pattern, and seeing how much it’s going to cost to buy one, I took on the task to make my own pattern to share with you for free.
This is my take on the design. After I trialled a few prototypes, I have finally succeeded. I have even improved on the design along the way. Do realise, not everyone’s jaw is the same so functionality of the mask is different for each person.
I do not want to take credit for the creation of the mask since it was first created by someone else. If you want to support the designer, then purchase the mask or pattern from him (Not sure if there is a pattern available) on Etsy.
This mask was designed for entertainment only, and not a replacement for a medical grade mask. I provide the pattern in 6 sizes. Hopefully I have everyone covered. If you don’t have a printer, not to worry, I will show you the measurement to draft your own patterns down below.
Click the image to download the patterns required. Print at 100% scale on A4 International Paper. Do not fit to page.
The envelope should be printed Landscape and Fit Page/Media to not waste space on the paper.
I am not able to make the envelope into a PDF file because it will be too large and will cause my website to crash. This is because my web hosting company cannot handle the downloading traffic. Last time it caused my site to be down for 3 days! For now, it will be a JPEG file.
Drafting the pattern: Large Only
Here are the measurements to draft a Large Talking Bird Pattern. If you want to draft other sizes, you will have to go down by roughly 7mm increments to decrease in size, and 8mm increments to increase in size once the Large patterns drafted. Another way is to enlarge the pattern (the original one above) on the computer screen by 100%, dot in the corners and then join up the lines.
Ear Loop Lengths:
Soft Rounded Elastic
Extra Small/Small 2x18cm (7inches)
Medium 2x21cm(8inches)
Large 2x23cm(9inches)
XLarge/XXLarge 2×23-25cm (9-9.8inches)
Over-Head Application 6mm Braid Elastic: +6cm (2.5inches) is for making the loops on the side. Cut it in half to make 2 pieces for the loops.
XXLarge/XLarge 65cm+6cm (25.5in+2.5in)
Large 60cm+6cm (23.5in+2.5in)
Medium 55cm+6cm (21.5in+2.5in)
Small 50cm+6cm (19.5in+2.5in)
XSmall 45cm+6cm (17.5in+2.5in)

Hi Natali, maybe you could adapt my Bird mask pattern into a Frog one. You just need to change the fabric colour into a green one and change the shape so it is not too long. Otherwise try this. I had a quick look online and I found something you might like. Search “Disposable Face Mask Tic Tac Tongue Chameleon Frog Mouth Mask”. If you are in USA they are available in Walmart, apparently. Best of luck.

Hi Jessica, it depends how big your son’s face is. When you download the mask pattern and printed off, measure the widest part of the mask. Top edge. Double the width and take away about 1cm or 5/8″ off from the measurement to get a rough estimate of the size. Measure your son’s face roughly from ear to ear and over the nose bridge. The main thing is, it goes over the nose bridge. The mask doesn’t have to be close to the ear to work, it has to cup under the chin to work. This is just a guess. If your son is a child from 7-10, I would say a medium should be ok on him. Best of luck.

Thanks so much for sharing! My son needs to do a presentation at school about a bird, so this is perfect. One question, how do I know which size to make?
Thanks!
