Due to popular request, here is a written/typed version for those that have trouble following video instructions and rather written/typed notes. The notes may not be very detailed compared to the video tutorial, but should give you enough information to construct the masks. I have created both filter linings for you to download.
These notes are for constructing a mask that is made of 2 pieces of fabric for the main cover, with a 3rd layer that holds the filter.
Also note, the video tutorial and the photo tutorial are not always instructed exactly in the same steps.
Before we start, please note:
Pre-wash all fabrics and pre-treat all interfacing if you decide to use any.
Always back stitch the beginning of the stitching and end of the stitching. I will not be prompting you on this.
Main fabric is the outer layer. Usually with a chosen pattern.
Lining fabric is the layer behind the main fabric. Usually the 2nd or middle layer.
The Filter Lining slot is usually the 3rd layer.
Either next to the mouth or the layer that keeps the replacement filter in the mask.
Click and download the pattern required. Print at 100% scale on A4 International Paper. Do not fit to page.
The envelope should be printed Landscape and Fit Page/Media to not waste space on the paper.
I am not able to make the envelope into a PDF file because it will be too large and will cause my website to crash. This is because my web hosting company cannot handle the downloading traffic. Last time it caused my site to be down for 3 days! For now, it will be a JPEG file.

When people ask me for written construction notes, I cannot simply give them a 4 step instruction! I am very detailed and thorough. Sorry if you were not expecting this. I used to work in education, I like to continue my teaching even though I don’t work there anymore.
Be sure to follow or subscribe to ShannieMakes on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube Channel for updates. Facebook is probably easier for me to update everyone since I can add links and folders in there.
Hope this has helped you?
See you in my next tutorial!

Disclaimer: This is not a medical grade face mask. Please, do your own own research for the type of materials you will need, and adapt it to my designs. I am only supplying the patterns and showing you how to construct the mask.
You are welcome to download and use my patterns to make items for friends, family, neighbours, or even to sell. I only ask of you to help me share or credit me and state where you got the patterns from.

Hi Patti, sorry if it was a bit confusing for you. Only cut one line. If you cut the left line, then you will end up with the REVERSE filter lining which sits on the sides. If you cut the line on the right, then you will have the CONVENTIONAL filter lining where it sits in the centre, Ignore the dotted lines on the top and bottom. Just cut the original mask outline. If you are still confused, find me on Facebook:ShannieMakes and private message me. Happy to show you what I mean.

I love your patterns and watching you sew! I’m onto my second pattern adding the filter pocket. What is very confusing to me is the cut lines for filter lining that extend beyond the top and bottom of the mask. I don’t know if this was a mistake or the only way you could draw them but it implies that I’m supposed to cut out almost a rectangle shape instead of a mask shape with shorter sides where it says (cut here for lining) and those lines extend beyond the mask pattern.
Thanks for sharing your gift of sewing talent with others!

Hi Lynda, that’s a very nice compliment. Btw, my accent isn’t very sought-after in my neck of the woods. Lol. x
